The African college of excellence in the social and human sciences
Scholars in Unisa’s College of Human Sciences are contributing daily to educating society at large. Catch Dr Bianca Parry from the Department of Psychology, who recently chatted to Mandla Shongwe on Sound Awake’s #TheOpinionPiece on SAfm. She provided insights on the female breadwinner during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Her interview was based on a paper that she wrote with her colleague, Prof Puleng Segalo, entitled, Eating burnt toast: The lived experiences of female breadwinners in South Africa. This contextualises the individual lived experiences of South African female breadwinners. The researchers collected data from ten female breadwinners in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces, respectively, using in-depth, semi-structured interviews in order to highlight what the realities of female breadwinners are in South Africa. The interview revisited this paper and looked at updated data on women breadwinners in SA.
