Enrolling on average 40% of all accounting students in South Africa
It is with great pleasure that I welcome all our students and stakeholders to the College of Accounting Sciences at the University of South Africa. At CAS, we are committed to providing high-quality accounting education that prepares our students for success in the evolving fields of accounting, taxation and auditing.
The college offers a suite of highly regarded qualifications that are registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), accredited by SAQA and endorsed by respected professional bodies, including ACCA, CIMA, IIA, SAICA, SAIGA, SAIT and SAIPA. These endorsements demonstrate our commitment to upholding rigorous academic standards and ensuring that our graduates possess the competencies necessary to excel in their professions.
CAS is grounded in teaching and learning, as well as research and engaged scholarship. With a dedicated team of 259 staff members, comprising professors, lecturers and administrative professionals, we offer a learning environment that combines academic theory with practical application. Many of our academics have received recognition from professional bodies such as ABASA, CIMA and SAIGA, which attests to the calibre of expertise within our college. The Department of Auditing has been acknowledged by the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa for its contribution to the advancement of the internal auditing profession, and several of our staff have also been recognised internationally at the Chartered Global Management Accountant Accounting Educator Awards.
Our stakeholder network continues to grow. A recent highlight is the strategic partnership between CAS and the Special Investigating Unit, a collaboration that supports our goal of aligning postgraduate programmes with national skills priorities and contributes to the strengthening of South Africa’s anti-corruption capacity.
To enrich the student experience, we host a variety of activities that support academic and professional development. These include orientation programmes, accounting professional days and networking sessions that connect students with employers and industry specialists. Our strong relationships with ABASA, FASSET and Bankseta also enable us to provide financial and developmental support that enhances student success.
In response to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the college has embraced technology-enabled teaching and assessment. Our online assessment model ensures that students remain competitive and gain experience with digital platforms that reflect contemporary professional environments.
We value the continued support of our stakeholders and remain committed to working collaboratively to advance the accounting profession. I look forward to the year ahead and to the shared progress, growth and success that our partnership will bring.
