Introduction to Grade R Teaching - GRT1501

Higher Certificate Year module NQF level: 5 Credits: 12
Module presented in English Module presented online
Purpose: The Introduction to Grade R Teaching module (NQF Level 5) aims to prepare aspiring teachers with the essential competencies, values, and understandings required to support holistic learning and development in children aged 5 to 6 years. Informed by 21st-century educational demands, the module promotes inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive teaching practices within diverse South African contexts. It introduces students to the history, purpose, and structure of Grade R within the broader Early Childhood Development (ECD) continuum and lays the foundation for ethical and reflective professional practice. The module prepares student teachers to enter Grade R classrooms with the foundational competence to promote equity, early learning, and well-being among South Africa's youngest learners, while also laying a stepping stone toward higher NQF levels and deeper professional specialisation.
