Effective 14 April 2026, DRM-protected EBSCO e-books will be using Thorium Reader, which offers improved accessibility features and supports users with disabilities.
Please note that this update applies specifically to the full download of DRM-protected EBSCO e-books for offline reading.
The following will remain unchanged:
- EBSCO e-books will continue to be accessible online via web browsers (Chrome, Edge, and Firefox)
- Downloading of EBSCO full-text articles
- User authentication processes for accessing EBSCO e-books
- E-books previously downloaded via Adobe Digital Editions will remain accessible, provided they were downloaded or checked out before the transition date
Adobe Reader will be replaced by Thorium Reader, as Adobe Reader does not comply with current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
To install Thorium Reader, please follow the attached instructions from 14 April onwards.
In case of any problems experienced, please send an e-mail to lib-help@unisa.ac.za .
