Purpose statement:
The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide students with a strong industry- oriented focus. The qualification also serves to provide students with the advanced knowledge, cognitive and conceptual tools and practical techniques for higher education in Animal Health. It may provide intellectual enrichment, enhance flexibility in the light of changing circumstances in the field of Animal Health, enable a change in career path or offer an intensive, focused and applied specialisation which meets the requirements in the labour market of the animal health industry. The graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Animal Health will have a deep and systematic understanding of current thinking, practice, theory and methodology in an area of specialisation. It is therefore particularly suitable for continuing professional development.
Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
 A  Diploma  in  Animal  Health  (or  equivalent),  or  an  appropriate  degree  with  evidence  of  Epidemiology  and  Veterinary  Public  Health  passed  with  an  average  of  60%  or  more  in  the  major  field  in  the  final  year,  
or
applicants  who  do  not  meet  the  admission  requirements  as  indicated  above  may  apply  for  admission  through  recognition  of  prior  learning  (RPL)  provided  they  are  at  least  27  years  old  with  a  minimum  of  five  years'  current,  relevant  working  and  research  experience  in  line  with  the  approved  qualification's  RPL  requirements. Applicants  who  have  a  final  major  mark  of  50%  to  59%  or  who  completed  the  diploma  more  than  five  years  previously,  may  be  considered  by  the  department  by  submitting  a  motivation,  CV  and  evidence  of  relevant  industry  working  experience  for  at  least  three  years  after  completing  the  Diploma  in  Animal  Health.  These  appeals  will  only  be  considered  if  the  enrolment  target  of  the  particular  qualification  has  not  been  met  and/or  additional  enrolment  spaces  are  available.
Applicants  who  do  not  comply  with  the  above  requirements  should  consider  applying  for  a  lower  level  qualification  for  which  they  meet  the  statutory  and  additional  requirements.
