About the book

In Hardman’s rigorous intellectual study, readers will find validation and support for approaches to creativity that do not prioritise idea-led work or the rational brain. It recognises embodied experience — a fluid way of being — and processes that avoid a neat, graspable, linear path by detouring, expanding, and tapping into what is unique and deeply personal in each of us. As Hardman says, creative intuition “calls for a more anarchic state of mind in which we tolerate seemingly irrelevant thoughts and hold in our minds possibly conflicting thoughts. It means being comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity.”

This book invites artists and teachers to embrace this necessary uncertainty, and it gives us the tools to defend a way of being that resists the rigid confines of so many educational structures. … this text – passionate in its mission – is a gift of encouragement to create learning spaces and experiences where students feel confident to explore beyond rational thought. … ”.
