Purpose: This module forms part of the Diploma in Animal Health. The students who complete this module will be able to recommend procedures for managing a piggery, poultry, game, horses and aquaculture enterprise. They will be able to describe the basic procedures involved in rearing, breeding and managing these animals. They will also be able to suggest marketing strategies for these animals and their products. These skills are essential for running an effective livestock farming operation, which in turn serves to support the important sector of agriculture on a large and small scale, and will therefore contribute to the development of sustainable food supply in Southern Africa.
