Purpose: In this module, students will be introduced to the South African context in which they will have to perform as future legal and criminal justice functionaries. They will develop a basic understanding of what shapes our legal system, the nature of the South African law and criminal justice system and how it is applied and administered. They will also develop an awareness of how they can, as legal and criminal justice functionaries, contribute towards building a safer and more just society in conformity with the South African Constitution.
