Purpose: The purpose of the module is to equip students with knowledge of and insight into the historical, origins and development of prisons towards correctional centres with a focus on both South African and International contexts. Through an in-depth examination of the origins, development, correctional frameworks, and security processes, students will gain foundational knowledge critical for understanding contemporary correctional systems and their role in societal betterment. Successful students will be able to contribute effectively to the advancement and implementation of correctional practices that foster societal betterment and rehabilitation.
