Purpose statement
The primary purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with graduate-level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence that provide for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity and valuable contributions to society in the fields of Accounting, Auditing, Management Accounting and Income Tax. The second purpose of the qualification is to provide South Africa, and other countries, with graduates in the fields of accounting and auditing. A further purpose of the qualification is to provide qualifiers with a base of further specialisation towards a professional career in accounting, auditing and/or related fields.

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning and with at least 50% in Mathematics or a 60% in Mathematical Literacy,
or
a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption (or qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation Board) and with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning and with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in Mathematics,
or
a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences
or
an appropriate Higher Certificate in Economic and Management Sciences,
or
an Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences,
or
a Diploma in Accounting or Accounting Sciences.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirement as indicated above, should apply for a lower NQF level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.
Applicants who would like to apply for admission through recognition of prior learning (RPL) must be at least 23 years old; have completed at least Grade 12; and have at least 3 years' relevant work experience in the study field in which they would like to apply for admission to a qualification.
