Pre-requisite modules: What you need to know before registering

We are here to help you register successfully. Before you register, it is important to understand Unisa's pre-requisite rules and how to apply them correctly to avoid delays or cancelled modules.  

Understanding pre-requisite rules

A pre-requisite is a module you must pass before you can continue with another module.

Semester modules:

• Register for the pre-requisite module in semester 1.
• Register for the next (follow-on) module for semester 2.
• You must pass the semester 1 pre-requisite module.
• If you do not pass, the semester 2 module will automatically be cancelled.
• Final-year students may register for both modules in the same semester if both are offered.

Year modules:

• You must pass the pre-requisite at the end of the academic year before you can continue with the next module.

Important information:

• Some qualifications (eg Social Work) have strict professional requirements.
  • These programmes must follow the approved curriculum set by the relevant professional bodies.
  • These rules cannot be changed or ignored.
• Student advisors are available to help with registration enquiries.
• Any changes before semester 2 must follow Unisa's policies and procedures, as well as NSFAS rules (if applicable).

How to register 

Follow these 7 steps to complete your registration:

• Visit the Unisa web registration page and review your curriculum.
• Select your qualification level and click "Go".
• Enter your student number and the other details as required.
• Verify and update your contact details, especially your address and cellphone number. Incorrect information may delay the delivery of your study material and prevent you from receiving important information from the university.
• Select your modules from the drop-down list and ensure you choose the correct semester or year period (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester; 0 = year module)
• Calculate your fees:

• • Use the online fee quotation tool.
  • You can make payment online, using the web credit card payment method or use one of the approved Unisa payment methods. Keep your proof of payment.

• Submit your registration.

Add or change modules after registration

If you are already registered and need to make changes:

• Log in to myUNISA.
• Go to myAdmin.
• Click on the "Add Modules" tab.
• Select the required module(s) from the drop-down list.
• Choose the correct study period (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester; 0 = year module)
• Submit your request.
