Dr. Sithembela Adonis Zikalala is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the UNESCO - UNISA Africa Chair in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, School of Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Studies, under the College of Graduate Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the Institute of Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability in the same institution, where his research focused on developing and tailoring polymer-supported semiconductor nanohybrid photocatalysts. He previously obtained his MSc degree in Chemistry (Cum Laude).  His research has been carried out in collaboration with the Tiangong University in China and has been showcased at the Zhejiang High-Level Foreign Experts Innovation Center in Shaoxin, Zhejiang, China.

Dr Zikalala’s current research focus is on the development and scaling up of eco-friendly and sustainable optoelectrical materials for industrial wastewater treatment and energy supply. He seeks to bring optoelectrical materials to the frontlines of addressing everyday water and energy needs of the community through partnerships with policy and industry practitioners. He has published several research articles in peer-reviewed, Scopus -indexed journals.  He has also co-authored a technical report to the Water Research Commission and has been involved in the development of a prototype aimed at textile wastewater pollution remediation. He currently serves as an administrator for the Membrane Society of South Africa and holds membership to similar local and international professional bodies.

He has participated in various international programs and training including the BABSON Build Program (MBA5), a short entrepreneurial training program at the BABSON College (Massachusetts, USA).
