Short Bio:

Professor Magdalena Petronella (Nellie) Swart is a Professor of Tourism and Director (Acting) of Executive Education at the Graduate School of Business Leadership, University of South Africa. She holds a Doctor of Commerce (DCom) in Leadership Performance and Change and is a Certified Meetings Professional (CMP).

She is an established academic, author, and industry leader in tourism and business events, with over 75 peer-reviewed publications and five co-edited books. Professor Swart chairs Tourism Educators South Africa (TESA) and leads the Executive Development Programme for Women in Tourism.

Her work focuses on tourism development, gender and leadership, sustainability, and business events. She has received multiple recognitions, including being named among the 100 Most Powerful People in African Hospitality (2022), Top 5 Women in Leadership in Africa (2023), and the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award at the AAXO ROAR Awards (2025).
