The research programme on Sustainable Futures and Responsible Citizenships (SUFRIC) embraces science-driven and citizen science enquiries to inform responsible citizenship from a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach. This way, SUFRIC proposes to embrace the Research-for-Development (R4D) model, leading to smart and resilient communities and businesses. The R4D model further seeks to propel development through research and science. Informing this work are major global, continental, regional, national, and local agendas and realities that demand responsibility from all key players to enhance and improve lives and livelihoods. As such, the work draws heavily from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 intertwined Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, given that the world has defined its future development trajectory to embrace sustainability, the SUFRIC goes beyond 2030 and aligns with the notion of leaving research agendas as an open question, mirrored in potential future areas of focus. At the interface of these global development agendas, including the Paris (Climate) Agreement, Sendai Framework, UN Ocean Decade, and more, are key stakeholders that make-or-break responsible citizenship, such as governments, businesses, organised labour, politicians, labour and development agencies. As such, SUFRIC navigates science and data, in, for, and with societies to co-create, co-design, and co-deliver common agendas. Several projects have been and are currently being done under SUFRIC.
